The American Association of Orthodontists and Dr. Aldridge recommend that kids in Chattanooga have their first orthodontic evaluation around the age of seven. Don't worry. This doesn't mean braces right away!
This early visit gives us a chance to check that your child's teeth, bite, and jaw are developing properly. Usually, we'll simply monitor your child's growth with quick, routine visits.
However, if we spot something that could benefit from early intervention, we can start treatment while their jaws are still growing to avoid more serious issues later.
How Early Treatment Works
By age seven, your child's smile starts revealing important details—like how their jaw is growing and whether permanent teeth are coming in as expected. Dr. Aldridge uses these early signs to create a proactive treatment plan that supports healthy development and sets your child up for long-term success.
Laying the Foundation
After your child's first visit, Dr. Aldridge may recommend starting Phase 1 treatment, especially if we spot crowding, crossbites, or bite issues.
Phase 1 usually lasts eight to 12 months and gently guides jaw growth using custom tools designed just for your child. Depending on their needs, we may use expanders, partial braces, or clear aligners.
Once Phase 1 is complete, your child will return for occasional check-ins so we can track how their adult teeth come in and determine if Phase 2 treatment is needed later.
Precision With Phase 2
Most kids begin Phase 2 treatment between ages 11 and 14 once most of their adult teeth are in place.
Using our in-house 3D scanning and printing technology, Dr. Aldridge can create custom braces or aligners that move your child's teeth more efficiently—leading to shorter treatment times and fewer visits.
Whether it's fine-tuning alignment or correcting bite concerns, Phase 2 completes your child's smile with comfort and confidence.
